Takuo Yuasa


Takuo Yuasa is a highly regarded conductor. He regularly performs throughout Europe and the Far East and in recent seasons has conducted at the Grand Théâtre de Provence in Aix, London’s Royal Festival Hall, Vienna’s Konzerthaus, Frankfurt’s Alte Oper, Stuttgart’s Liederhalle and the Sibelius Hall in Lahti, Finland, as well as major concert halls throughout Japan.
He has held the position of Principal Conductor with the Gumma Symphony Orchestra in Japan, and Principal Guest Conductor of the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra and the Ulster Orchestra in Northern Ireland during multiple re-extended contracts from both orchestras.
He has conducted major orchestras worldwide, including the London Philharmonic, Oslo Philharmonic, Norwegian Radio Orchestra, Hong Kong Philharmonic, Sydney Symphony, Japan Philharmonic, Tokyo Metropolitan Orchestra and the Royal Flemish Philharmonic. He has been a frequent guest conductor with major UK orchestras including the Halle Orchestra, Royal Scottish National Orchestra, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, BBC National Orchestra of Wales and the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra.
Takuo Yuasa has a successful and prolific recording career with over thirty CD releases. For EMI he has recorded Rimsky-Korsakov’s Scheherezade with the London Philharmonic. He recorded Schubert’s Ninth symphony with the BBC Scottish Orchestra, and as a Naxos artist he has recorded with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, Ulster Orchestra, BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland.
Recorded repertoire includes works by Britten, Macmillan, Webern and Schoenberg, Honegger, Macdowell, Schubert, Pärt, Górecki, Glass and Nyman, as well as the complete symphonies of Brahms and Schumann live from concerts with the Osaka Century Orchestra.
He is also Professor, Performing Arts Centre, Tokyo University of Fine Arts and Music where he is closely associated with the university’s fine Sogaduko Concert Hall and appears with the Geidai Philharmonia Orchestra. His musicianship and infectious leadership has attracted the national youth orchestras of Scotland, Northern Ireland and Ireland, and many music conservatories to invite him to work with their next generation of performers.
Takuo Yuasa received the prestigious Iue Cultural Award in October 2007, created by Toshio Iue (founder of SANYO), for his exceptional contribution to music and for his international artistic achievements.
