Documentary film scored by Cuomo wins Emmy

With original music by Cuomo, FRONTLINE's Two American Families: 1991-2024 won an Emmy for Outstanding Social Issue Documentary at the 46th annual News & Documentary Emmy Awards held June 25 and 26 in New York City by the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.


Cuomo was lucky enough to be able to work with close friends and long-time work colleagues, the directors and producers Tom Casciato and Kathleen Hughes. The film's correspondent and narrator was the great journalist Bill Moyers, who sadly passed away on the day the Emmy was awarded. It also was named Best TV Documentary of 2024 by The International Documentary Association.


Following two working class families in Milwaukee, one black and one white, over the course of 32 years, the two-hour documentary is "a portrait of perseverance from that raises unsettling questions about the changing nature of the American economy and the impact on people struggling to make a living. The film had a number of iterations over that time all scored by Cuomo, who collaborated on the final one last year with his son, the composer Ben Cuomo.
