"Cuomo has a diverse CV including jazz, TV, and film work. (The familiar latin jazz theme of Sex and the City is by Cuomo.) The first movement of this symphonic poem has something of a hunt-and-peck concept where Lovano dialogues with rhythmic gambits and melodic cells. In the second, the music expands to aleatoric possibilities in the full orchestra before settling into a cinematic minor-key adagio."
"Lovano understands many different kinds of music, and he sounds totally at ease improvising with a full-scale orchestra in support. It’s a good record, perhaps even a historically important one. At any rate, I want more. Michelle Merrill conducts the Winston Salem Symphony."
