Violinist Mark Kaplan and pianist David Kaplan have released their new album Brahms: The Violin Sonatas on the Orchid Classics label.
Excerpts from review in The Violin Channel
Mark Kaplan and David Kaplan perform Brahms G Major sonata
The album is the first joint release from the father-and-son duo, and it highlights their years of close musical and personal relationship. The three sonatas for violin and piano by Johannes Brahms, which are remarkable for the equality with which the two voices are treated, are ideal works to allow the duo's familial dialogue to emerge..
"After making dozens of CDs on my own and in various combinations, my son David Kaplan and I decided finally to make one together, and we both immediately thought of the Brahms Sonatas as the perfect repertoire to join musical forces," Mark Kaplan tells The Violin Channel. "We’re at such different times in our lives and careers, and David, who grew up surrounded by my musical world, has in the past couple of decades really defined his own–that’s enormously exciting for me!"
